Multi-purpose Blood Bag
A multi-purpose blood bag for the separation of components in blood by gravitational settlement or centrifugation, includes an upper chamber and a lower one connected by a slender neck, there being access conduits to each chambers and neck. The bag is so dimensioned in order to allow blood to have a normal hematocrit so as to the interfaces between packed red cells and the buffy coat and between the buffy coat and the plasma will lie within the neck. Then the neck can be clamped off or otherwise sealed to separate the phases sharply and to permit to recover virtually 100% of the plasma and the packed red cells.
